The Ultimate Media

Much like pretty much 90% of the students living in Provo, Utah right now, I spend my weekend this weekend watching 8 hours of General Conference. It was absolutely incredible to spend 10 hours of my life listening to the words of prophets, apostles and other auxiliary leaders of the church and being spiritually fed. I don't know if this counts as typical "media" but to me it counts as the ultimate media.

I watch media for a lot of reasons, but mostly to be entertained and not have to think for a few hours while I'm doing it. However, as I watched and listened to General Conference this weekend I was paying more attention than I ever had in my life. I paid attention to know what things I could do to help make myself better and help make other people happier. What media could possibly be better than that?

I guess I'm just grateful for the opportunity to be able to see the contrast between this spiritually enriching weekend of the "ultimate media" and the other countless hours I have spent just trying to entertain myself watching Parks and Rec or Brooklyn 99. It was a nice breath of fresh air to say the least.

  1. I loved this and totally agree! Conference is always the most refreshing weekend, but it felt even more so after we've spent so much time talking about how media influences us! When there's a good message, the media is even more enticing. And of course Jeffrey R. Holland pulled out another A+ talk that completely captivated me and filled me with peace.
